Photography in a Day
Landscapes - Urban vs Nature
We were asked to take landscape pictures that show both man-made and natural parts of Crawley.
This a picture of the path leading to the playground. From this angle it shows that it has the grass and bushes on either side of the concrete path which is leading to the childs playground.
Social Documentary - Christmas Shopping
We were asked to take pictures of the busy crowds in Crawley.
This is a picture of a fairly large crowd outside the shops so they can buy christmas presents.
Portrait
We were asked to take pictures of college students with the college as a background.
This is a picture of Nathan leaning on a rail with the college building in the back and from the angle you can see the sign on the side of the building.

Her work scares me a bit when it first comes on the screen but then it just looks weird.
Her work doesn't influence me because its quite weird and its quite scary.

My Landscape Photos
All these pictures where taken from the top floor of the mall car park.
Big Tree (13/11/08)
When i went to take this picture i saw a train passing by but the camera wasn't on so instead i saw the tree and thought it would be a good picture.
Lampost (13/11/08)
When i was taking the picture it looked better in real life because i could see the church roof.
Crane and Church (13/11/08)
This picture was taken rfrom the other side of the mall car park so i had a better view of both the crane and the church roof.

Andreas Gursky takes pictures of landscapes. Landscape pictures are usually of natural scenery but Gursky usually takes pictures of manmade constructs.

His photos don't make me feel anything because they are everyday things that don't seem intresting.

They haven't influenced me because i haven't taken any landscape pictures.
Rule of Thirds
Most landscape pictures can be divided into three, the top is often the background, the bottom is often the foreground and the middle (usually the pictures' focus) is called 'The Golden Third'. 'The Golden Third' usually contains the subject the photographer is trying to take.
For example, the picture above at its busiest in the centre, with less in the background and a fair bit of detail in the foreground.

SLR Camera notes
The slower the shutter speed the the more light that hits the film.
The smaller the aperture the less light that hits the film.
Shutter Speed
Slow- 1 Second
1/30 second
V.Fast- 1/1000
The lower the number is the larger the aperture and the higher, the smaller.
(a low aperture will be blurred)
1/4 sec' + f/2.8 = white
1/4 sec' + f/4 = too bright
1/8 sec' + f/4 = too bright
1/8 sec' + f/5.6 = too bright/blurry
1/15 sec' + f/5.6 = too bright/blurry
1/15 sec' + f/22 = too dark
Depth of Field
-Foreground
-Backround
The smaller the aperture the greater the depth of field.

The Art I Disliked
Soap and Stainless Steel- By Miroslaw Balka (1958)
I didn't like this "art" because it was boring and it was just soap on steel.
